Geunyoung Hong is a ceramic artist who visualizes traces of anxiety and emotion arising from the conditions of life. Drawing on her experiences as a woman, she explores the burdens of pain, responsibility, and human connection in her work. The process of assembling broken or distorted fragments becomes a symbolic act—restoring what has been damaged and reconnecting what has been severed. Hong evokes ancient belief systems through the ceramic medium, reinterpreting them from a contemporary perspective. Her hand-molded faces and figures are reminiscent of the expressions of people she has encountered throughout her life. Rather than concealing pain, her work makes it visible, thereby proposing the possibility of solidarity and empathy.

Geunyoung Hong(b.1984) graduated with a BFA in Sculpture from Sungshin Women’s University, where she also completed her MFA in Public Art. Since beginning her full-fledged artistic career in 2012, she has held numerous solo exhibitions, including 《People Walking on the Water》 at YYARTS(Tokyo), as well as at Gallery IN HQ, Project KSBJ, A Bunker, and SOHYUNMUN. Hong actively participates in both domestic and international group exhibitions. Her work has been featured at institutions such as the Buk-Seoul Museum of Art, Maison de la Corée(Paris), Untitled Art(Miami), DakshinaChitra Heritage Museum(Chennai), Overground(Fukuoka), Gyeonggi Museum of Ceramic Design, ARKO Art Center, Osan Museum of Art, Suwon I'PARK Museum of Art, and Clayarch Gimhae Museum. She has been selected for the Suwon Cultural Foundation’s Culture and Arts Creation Support Project, in both 2024 and 2021, and has participated in a number of artist residencies including Cheonan White Block Creative Studio (2025–2027), Suwon Pureunjidae Creative Residence (2023–2024), the Indo- Korea Ceramic Residency at InKo Centre in collaboration with the Kalakshetra Foundation (2020), and the Ceramic Creation Center at Clayarch Gimhae Museum (2019). Her works are held in the collections of institutions such as the Osan Museum of Art, InKo Centre, Kalakshetra Foundation, and Dakshina Chitra Museum.

홍근영은 도자를 중심으로 작업하며, 삶의 조건 속에서 마주하는 불안과 감정의 흔적을 시각화한다. 작가는 자신이 경험한 여성으로서의 삶을 바탕으로, 인간이 감당해야 하는 고통과 책임, 관계의 무게를 재료 위에 담아낸다. 깨지고 일그러진 조각들을 이어붙이는 과정은 단절된 것을 다시 엮고, 망가진 것을 회복시키는 상징적 행위이기도 하다. 홍근영은 도자라는 매체에 오래된 믿음의 형식을 불러들이고, 이를 현대적 감각으로 풀어낸다. 손으로 빚은 얼굴과 형상들은 작가가 살아오며 마주한 다양한 사람들의 표정을 닮아 있으며, 고통을 감추기보다 드러내고 공유함으로써 공감과 연대의 가능성을 제안한다.

홍근영(b.1984)은 성신여자대학교 조소과를 졸업한 후, 동 대학원에서 공공미술 석사를 마쳤다. 2012년부터 본격적으로 활동을 시작했으며, YYARTS(도쿄)에서 《물 위를 걷는 사람》을 비롯해 갤러리인HQ, 프로젝트 경성방직, 에이벙커, 소현문 등에서 개인전을 개최하였으며, 메종 드 라 코레(파리), 다크시나치트라 헤리티지 박물관(첸나이), 오버그라운드(후쿠오카)와 서울시립 북서울미술관, 경기도자미술관, 아르코미술관, 오산시립미술관, 수원시립아이파크미술관, 클레이아크김해미술관, 언타이틀드 아트(마이애미) 등의 단체전 및 프로젝트에 참여했다. 수원문화재단의 창작 지원사업(2024, 2021)에 선정되었으며, 천안 화이트블럭 창작스튜디오(2025–2027), 푸른지대 창작샘터(2023-2024), 인도 InKo Centre(2020), 클레이아크김해미술관(2019) 등의 레지던시에 참여했다. 오산시립미술관, 한-인도 문화센터, 칼락셰트라 재단(인도), 다크시나치트라 헤리티지 박물관(인도) 등 국내외 기관에 작품이 소장되어 있다.
