Mina Ham (b. 1987) captures a series of events in her childhood and the remnants of emotions she experienced from the occurrences to the present. Most characters in Ham’s work appear to be children who are not yet fully grown. Rather than aiming to symbolize immaturity, the move is the artist’s self-healing wish to strengthen herself in the past, along with reminiscing a time of passionately immersing oneself in a subject. The intentionally obscure figures reveal no information about their gender, nationality, or ethnic background but make obvious gestures of emotions and actions driven internally, allowing room for interpretation so that stories can be created. Ham’s distinctive use of contrasting colors and smudged, flowing, and winding brushwork mixed in with her personal memories and feelings come to us like a thick, moisture-laden landscape.

Mina Ham (b. 1987) hosted her first solo exhibition at Seojin Art Space in 2017, followed by those at Public Gallery, Czong Institute for Contemporary Art, Keep in Touch Outhouse, and Galerie ERD. She was featured in group shows at various venues, including the K Museum of Contemporary Art, Seokpajeong Seoul Art Museum, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, and Kumho Museum of Art.

함미나(b.1987)는 어린 시절 작가에게 일어난 일련의 사건들과 그 일들이 일어난 시기부터 현재까지 이어진 감정의 잔재들을 포착한다. 작가가 포착한 화면 속 인물은 대부분 아직 온전히 성장하지 않은 어린아이의 모습으로 등장한다. 이는 미성숙함을 상징하는 것이 아닌, 어떤 한 대상에 열성적으로 몰입할 수 있었던 그 시절에 대한 그리움과 더불어 과거의 나를 더욱 단단하게 만들고 싶은 작가의 자가치유적 소망을 담고 있다. 작가는 그리는 인물의 성별, 국적, 인종 등은 특정할 수 없도록 모호하게 설정하지만, 감정과 행동 등 내면으로부터 발현된 제스처는 확연하게 드러내며 이야기가 생성될 수 있는 다양한 해석의 여지를 남겨둔다. 또한 작가 특유의 대비되는 색감, 뭉개지고 흐르며 구불거리는 붓질은 작가의 개인적 기억, 감정과 함께 혼재되며 짙은 습기를 머금은 듯한 풍경으로 우리 앞에 나타난다.

함미나(b.1987)는 2017년 서진 아트스페이스 개인전을 시작으로, 퍼블릭 갤러리, CICA 미술관, 킵인터치, 별관, 갤러리 이알디에서 개인전을 개최했으며, K현대미술관, 석파정 서울미술관, 국립현대미술관, 금호미술관 등 다수의 그룹전에 참여하였다.
