Hanna Kim
Biography
Hanna Kim (b. 1984) uses various materials to visually embody fragments of peripheral feelings that undeniably exist but are unnamed, lying between emotions that emerge on the surface of society. The artist sets a rectangular panel as the base axis of the visualization process and follows her emotions to bring previously nonexistent unfamiliar images to reality through acts of subtraction, such as cutting, scraping, flipping, etc., and addition, such as painting, gluing, and other steps of fusing. The dismantling and combining processes create an aggregate of things, like big and small scratches, spiky sides, dripping and hardened viscous globs, and more, giving the work an entirely new sense of presence like that of a “raw,” living organism.
Hanna Kim (b. 1984) graduated from Kyungwon University in 2007, majoring in Western Painting before earning a PGDip at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art in 2010 and an MFA at Chelsea College of Art, UK in 2011, both in Fine Art. Beginning with the 2015 show at Dongtan Art Space, she has held solo exhibitions at Alternative Space Art Forum Rhee, This Weekend Room, and Sahng-up Gallery Euljiro, as well as participating in numerous group exhibitions, including those at Insa Art Space, Chang Ucchin Museum of Art, Yangju, Seoul Art Space Mullae, B39 Bucheon Art Bunker, and Bucheon Museum.
김한나는 삶 속에서 쉽게 내보이는 감정과 감정의 사이 존재하는 명명되지 않은 조각들을 시각적으로 형상화한다. 정립되지 않은 것을 생성하기 위해 작가는 사각형 판넬을 기본값으로 설정한 후, 그 사각형을 절단하고, 뒤집고, 새롭게 이어 붙이는 등의 형태 변화의 과정을 거친다. 그러한 과정으로 작품에 크고 작은 생채기와 뾰족뾰족한 단면, 진득한 덩어리 등이 다양한 재료를 통해 더해지며 마치 ‘날 것’의 생명체처럼 다가와 그 존재감을 드러낸다.
김한나(b.1984)는 2007년 경원대학교 서양화과를 졸업한 후 2010년 센트럴세인트마틴예술학교 순수미술과 준석사, 2011년 첼시예술대학교 순수미술과 석사 과정을 마쳤다. 2015년 동탄아트스페이스 개인전을 시작으로, 대안공간 아트포럼리, 디스위켄드룸, 상업화랑 을지로에서 개인전을 개최했으며, 인사미술공간, 양주시립장욱진미술관, 문래예술공장, B39부천아트벙커, 부천시립박물관 등 다수의 그룹전에 참여하였다.
